Social Psychiatry: Innovation in Research, Implementation, and Training (SPIRIT) Initiative

WHAT WE DO

The SPIRIT initiative strives to
rethink a public health approach to mental health, providing resources to study social causes of mental wellness across the life course, empowering researchers and communities to develop and implement scalable interventions that reduce the onset and persistence of psychiatric disorders and improve mental health.

Identifying the causes of these rapid changes in mental health is critical to designing and implementing solutions. With a public health approach, we will focus on these three domains:

OUR APPROACH

Etiology

Mechanisms

Intervention

Bringing together over 40 Columbia faculty, our activities in 2024 will include a speaker series, book club discussions, and exploratory grant programs.
